Description
A common wildflower in southern Oklahoma is the American basket flower. Sometimes called the American star thistle, shaving brush. They get their name from the basket like bracts just beneath the flower head. You can find them in fields, meadows and along the roadsides in early summer. This one has not yet fully bloomed and appears to me, to be wearing a crown.
