Description
This handsome fellow is an ornate box turtle. Box turtle have a high domed shell and the ornate box turtle has a darker shell with yellow lines coming down from the top of their shell. Their homes are shallowly dug burrows where they spend much of time during the hot summer days and will hibernate over winter. They are quite common here in Oklahoma. This fellow was digging himself a burrow in one of my flower beds when I interrupted him.
